Join Tom Crudgington (owner of Body Development Gym) and Peter Hodkinson (founder of Body Mind Fit) for a unique, 6 hour workshop. Over the day, we will cover all aspects of Indian clubs, Persian meels, and push-up board skills, knowledge and techniques.

SCHEDULE

• Dynamic warm ups drills for club swinging
• Elements of single/double-grip southern India club swinging
• BD-X crossover club swinging drills and techniques

SHORT LUNCH BREAK –

• Persian meel swinging
• Powerful push-ups using the Shena (push-up board)
• A short Qigong flow

The session will begin with an introduction to thick-grip Southern India karlakattai-style clubs followed by a warm-up and energising single club workout. This will be a dynamic workout led by Peter with a combination of traditional bodyweight and club exercises to mobilise and strengthen the body. We will make sure to cover technique as we go so that you have the capacity to go home and practice safely with good form after the session. Next, Tom will lead a BD-X crossover club flow. This club is a hybrid between a large Indian club and a small Persian meel, so is excellent to explore before we move on to Persian meel work.

After lunch, we will progress to a heavier meel swinging session focussing on building upper body strength whilst maintaining strong alignment and good form. Then, we’ll switch our meels for shenas (wooden push-up boards) and get into some challenging drills that will really test your core. Don’t worry if you’re new to the Shena, you will be introduced to exercises one by one, and will learn alternative variations to make drills easier or more challenging, depending on your own abilities. Finally, we will cool down with some qigong exercises to calm the mind and relax the body.

This workshop is open to all, and is suitable for anyone who is new to the equipment listed above, as well as those with a more established practice who wish to learn more about the mechanics of club movements or refine their technique.

We will have a wide range of clubs and meels available, so there will be something here for everyone, regardless of your current strength/experience.
